Our Story
April and Shana are both skilled and dynamic facilitators who love creating experiences where people can develop toward their best selves and their best work. They were each happily and successfully running their own businesses doing just that, traveling across the country to facilitate powerful meetings and trainings, when the COVID-19 outbreak forced them to rethink how they work. As they were in conversation about their own struggles and dreams in this unprecedented situation, it became clear that they had eerily complementary skills and interests. Shana loved the parts of the job that didn’t feel like such a good fit to April, and April loved the parts of the job that made Shana itch.
They got curious about the possibilities. They both wanted to keep doing what they loved. They both saw clearly how critical the need would be to continue to support the development of people doing important work in the world — even when doing so in-person wasn’t a viable option. They also both had an instinct that there was an opportunity here to see the work differently, and to develop innovations that might be even better in some ways than the world that was left behind when a pandemic changed everything we all knew.
Breakthrough Convenings represents the fusion of April’s determination to bring joy and engagement to using data and evidence to drive improvement and Shana’s background as a change-maker, powerful facilitator, and systems leader.
